Why

Opensource is about people, experience and technology ...

If you like 8051, hardware design, etc. you can join author(s) of the project and work on it to make it better and bigger. Especially if you are student, such a participation can be quite prestigious and iteresting for you. Of course AVR and PIC are more popular MCUs but 8051 is still very popular technology.

You have an oportunity to show your self to the world, to gain more experience and to shape the future at least of this project.

What would you get for it

  • More interesting experience
  • Contact with peple wordwide
  • Presentation of your knowledge, abilities and experience
  • Your own personal site here
  • And maybe you would improve your English (if you are not native speaker)
  • You can work together with (opensource) specialists abound the word
  • Friends ...
  • What would you NOT get for it

  • Money (it's absolutely free of charge)
  • Any certificates or formal education of any kind
  • Infinite glory
  • What does this project need

Hardware tools are quite important part of such a IDE. But they have been neglected here for a long time. So it would be nice to design more and more various HW tools and publish them here.

Operating systems supported by this IDE are all based on Linux. It would be nice to somehow extend support to other systems and also improve the current support for Linux.

Documentation is one of dark sites of the project. Currently there is no documentation for this project. It is one important goals of future development of the project.

Software, this project is primarily about software so it's also important to keep the software fresh and improve its reliability and functionality. The IDE itself is written in Tcl/Tk and "Simple serial programmer" is written in C++/Qt4.

Community, it would be great to establish a community of people interested in 8051 and this project. Or join some existing community of that kind ...
